Trump continues to fill his cabinet this week with what I would call a wrecking crew of people who are incompetent to be overseeing these departments, or conversely are competent at what their main focus will be: dismantling their departments.
Mehmet Oz, for example, as the head of CMS (Centers for Medicade and Medicare Services) supports the Medicare Advantage plan as default, with block grants to states, Medicade time limits and work requirements to get people away from depending on it for life, things that the disabled can’t do in many cases, and doing away with support for prior conditions - which is the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 answer for privatizing Medicare.
Linda McMahon, wife to McMahon wrestling empire promoter and a WWE wrestler, is set to be the new Secretary of Education. What are her qualifications aside from wrestling, you might ask? One year on the Connecticut School Board, and zero time as a professional teacher. Her primary function will be dismantling the Department of Education as promised by Trump and Project 2025, so what does she really need to know? Right?
As we dig deeper into both Project 2025 and Trump’s picks we see a continuing pattern to largely dismantle the federal government, deregulate just about everything, and provide more corporate welfare along the way. Meanwhile, the needs of the poor and disabled will fall upon the state, nonprofits, and the people themselves to deal with.
The spreadsheet I use to keep track of the administration and congress is available here:
