In “Dear MAGA #2”, I said I’m going to be keeping track of what the Trump Administration, Congress, and the Courts do for the next 4 years, so you don’t have to. Understanding the impact of their actions on people, both good and bad, will be a primary focus, not just keeping score. Trump does not deserve a free ride by media this time around. And yet, I continue to see mainstream media platform Trump supporters who continue to justify fascism, racism, authoritarianism, and theocracy totally in opposition to the Constitution and democracy that have been the foundations of America from the beginning.
Right now, the President-elect is putting forward his crazy cabinet picks, and some of it is already falling apart, as Matt Gaetz bows out of his bid for US Attorney General under a dark cloud of ethics violations which may lead to legal actions against him for statutory rape, human trafficking, and drug charges. The GOP is the party of family values, right? Right. Their primary aim is destruction of the Federal government, and probably the best we can hope for is they will not be as efficient and effective as they would like to be in that effort, both in terms of their ineptitude, and legal challenges in the courts by our defenders of democracy.
President Biden, along with the Senate in this ‘lame duck’ session, is working hard to fill judicial vacancies with judges who support democracy and the rule of law. Federal judges hold lifetime appointments which only end in retirement, death, or impeachment. If the President and Senate can accomplish this before January, it will be a significant buffer against Donald Trump, both in terms of legal cases being brought before the judges and also not leaving empty slots for Trump to fill with his own MAGA judges, who as we have seen with Aileen Cannon, are most likely corrupt.
The very first thing on Trump’s agenda after he takes office is to begin deportation of illegal immigrants. I have seen a boat load of videos featuring naturalized and native citizens who voted for trump, who are themselves minorities, who have people in their families or who have friends who are illegal immigrants, who they think won’t be affected by the efforts to deport illegal immigrants, “because they are going after the ‘bad guys’ first.” But if you listen to the people implementing this, they will be going after everyone who doesn’t have a legal document allowing them to be here, and they will probably stop programs, such as DACA as well, turning over people’s lives who came here as children and know no other life or culture than America. The impacts of this mass deportation effort will be felt by everyone, from factories to farms, and your pocketbook; even if you voted for Trump, you’re not safe. FAFO indeed.
The next impact I expect to be recording is the effects of Trump’s promise to establish high tarrifs against goods imported from overseas. This is actually having an effect right now, as businesses spend money that would have gone towards holiday bonuses on stocking up on cheaper materials from overseas before the tarrifs kick in. In some cases, companies are also laying off workers in anticipation of production slow downs due to these impacts. Here are a bunch of videos on YouTube you can watch that states the impacts, both projected and happening now.
I’ll keep plugging away at this, and you hang in there America.
